Measure from the gun
Finish triangulation first. Then draw the final red measurement from the IRON NEST position to the located target. A range measured from a spotter produces a different solution and is one of the easiest ways to miss by a large distance.
Match the charge to the calculation
At the calculator, enter the current range and chosen ammunition. The first available green charge indicator represents the minimum charge that can reach the range in the demonstrated interface. A higher charge can reach the same distance at a lower elevation and generally produces a shorter flight time.
Pull the calculation lever and use the resulting task card. Transfer the charge to the loader and the elevation to the gun mechanism without substituting values from an earlier card.
The community manual formula
One recent tutorial demonstrates this relationship:
elevation = current distance ÷ maximum range for the selected charge × 60
The video tests a distance of 7.98 against a two-charge maximum range of 10, producing 47.88 degrees, and a distance of 18.59 against a four-charge maximum of 20, producing 55.77 degrees. Both examples hit in the recorded conditions.
Those two hits do not establish a universal external calculator. The value 60 is described as the mechanism's maximum elevation, and the charge ranges come from the player's observed setup. Different ammunition, versions, or mission modifiers may invalidate the relationship.
Correct a missed shot
If the impact report provides a distance and direction to the target, preserve the impact marker and plot the correction from that marker. Then draw a new final line from the IRON NEST to the corrected target. Re-enter the new range with the exact charge you intend to load.

- Was the final range measured from the IRON NEST rather than a spotter?
- Does the loaded charge match the calculator selection?
- Did you transfer the current elevation and bearing to the correct gun?
- Did you preserve the prior impact point while applying the correction?
