Quick answer

IRON NEST Mods are community software, not features promised or supported by the official Steam page. Use the original Mod listing, match its version to your game, back up saves and game files, install only the files named by the author, and test with an expendable save before returning to a main campaign.

Nexus Mods is the main directory found in current search results. The multiplayer tutorial provides one manual-installation example, not a universal procedure for every Mod.

Choose the source before the Mod

Open the author-linked project or Nexus listing and inspect the upload date, game version, dependencies, posts, and known bugs. Avoid download mirrors that remove the author instructions. A Mod with no current version statement should be treated as incompatible until tested safely.

Steam currently makes no Workshop or official Mod-support promise on the store page. “Available for IRON NEST” therefore does not mean approved by the developer.

Manual installation overview

The multiplayer example copies a specified folder and plugin files into the Steam local game directory. Its on-screen interface confirms that the demonstrated build loaded. Other Mods may use different folders or a loader, so follow the exact current readme and preserve the original directory structure.

Before changing anything:

  1. close the game;
  2. back up important saves and any file the Mod will replace;
  3. note the installed game version and Mod version;
  4. save the original download page and removal instructions;
  5. install one Mod at a time and launch a controlled test.

Compatibility and save risks

Game patches may replace files, change internal behavior, or invalidate a loader. Multiple Mods can also conflict even when each works alone. A multiplayer Mod adds network and synchronization faults on top of file compatibility.

Do not diagnose a base-game bug while Mods remain loaded. Reproduce the problem in a clean installation first. Do not promise that a Modded save will load after removal unless the author documents that behavior.

Remove and recover

Use the author's removal steps to delete only files added by that Mod. If the original game files were overwritten, restore the backup or use Steam's file verification. Start the base game without Mods and test a separate save. Reinstall only after the clean game works and the Mod author confirms current compatibility.
